“How much does Saudi Arabia hate women? So much so that 15 girls died in a school fire in Mecca in 2002, after “morality police” barred them from fleeing the burning building — and kept firefighters from rescuing them — because the girls were not wearing headscarves and cloaks required in public. And nothing happened. No one was put on trial. Parents were silenced.”

“Judgments”I took this last year, but in retrospect, I think it’s my strongest piece from high school.
Working on this project really made me examine my own opinions, preconceptions and prejudices about “slutty” women and women who choose to cover all of their skin alike. I used to assume that all women who wore Hijabs were being oppressed, slut-shame, and look down on and judge any woman who didn’t express her sexuality in a way that I found appropriate.
I’d like to think I’m more open now.

"You can move to the next question. I’ll respectfully say that life is dynamic and comes along with dynamic experiences, and the same sentiment that I have towards genres of music, I have towards a lot of labels and boxes and shit. I’m in this business to be creative—I’ll even diminish it and say to be a content provider. One of the pieces of content that I’m for fuck sure not giving is porn videos. I’m not a centerfold. I’m not trying to sell you sex. People should pay attention to that in the letter: I didn’t need to label it for it to have impact. Because people realize everything that I say is so relatable, because when you’re talking about romantic love, both sides in all scenarios feel the same shit. As a writer, as a creator, I’m giving you my experiences. But just take what I give you. You ain’t got to pry beyond that. I’m giving you what I feel like you can feel. The other shit, you can’t feel. You can’t feel a box. You can’t feel a label. Don’t get caught up in that shit. There’s so much something in life. Don’t get caught up in the nothing. That shit is nothing, you know? It’s nothing. Vanish the fear."

I feel like vomiting, I love this answer so much. “You can move to the next question.” YAAAAS, bitch.

I really love this answer. Because it’s like a big fuck you to every person that feels the need to compartmentalize everyone/everything into boxes of labels. because if ppl are just labels, that’s all they are. they aren’t people anymore, just another “other.” and why yes, labels are great for some people, they aren’t great for others that need their safety, that just don’t care to fit into an academic label and they are SO important for people that don’t like the labels already made by white people.

my definition of what it means to be queer, as a person of color, as a latin@, is person is different because it’s what i make of it. and that’s why i love this quote, because it’s about self-care and it’s about doing you and being about you. I LOVE THIS KIND OF SELF-LOVE BECAUSE IT IS SO EMPOWERING!!!

You Can’t Be a Princess” | Journalists from ABC’s “What Would You Do?” planted hidden cameras in a Halloween store and filmed shoppers’ reactions to a boy who wanted a princess costume and a girl who wanted a Spider-man costume.

Riley is not impressed. Honestly. Stop it now.
